The Clear Lake Trail

The newest addition to WPB's trail system runs along the west side of Clear Lake — and if you haven't been on it yet, go. It's a paved waterfront trail with the Edge building visible in the distance, the lake on one side, and the kind of early-morning quiet that makes you realize how much outdoor infrastructure this city has built in the last few years. It connects to the broader trail network and is genuinely one of the nicest easy walks or rides in the downtown corridor.

The Lake Trail on Palm Beach Island

Cross the bridge and you're on one of the most beautiful paved trails in Florida. The Lake Trail runs the length of Palm Beach Island along the Intracoastal — about 5.5 miles one way — with water views the entire route, the island estates to one side, and almost no car traffic. Early weekend mornings it draws cyclists and walkers from across the county. It's about a 10-minute ride from downtown WPB and worth every minute.

Grassy Waters Preserve

Most people outside of WPB have never heard of Grassy Waters. Most people who live here and have been once go back constantly. It's a 5,000-acre freshwater preserve on the northwest side of the county — wetlands, pine flatwoods, and cypress swamp with hiking trails, a boardwalk, and some of the best birding in Palm Beach County. Free to enter, almost never crowded, and genuinely wild. It's about 20 minutes from downtown and feels like a different world.

John Prince Park

John Prince is the big county park on the south side of WPB — a 726-acre facility built around Lake Osborne with walking and cycling paths, picnic areas, fishing, and a campground. It's the kind of park that becomes a weekly habit for residents in the south end of the downtown corridor. Casual, well-maintained, and never feels overrun.

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park

MacArthur Beach is on Singer Island in North Palm Beach — about 20 minutes from downtown — and it's one of the most underrated natural areas in South Florida. A barrier island preserve with a nature center, a boardwalk over the Lake Worth Lagoon, and one of the last undeveloped stretches of Atlantic coastline in Palm Beach County. Good snorkeling, good birding, and the kind of quiet that's hard to find this close to a city. Small entrance fee, worth every penny.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park

About 45 minutes north near Hobe Sound, Jonathan Dickinson is the largest state park in Southeast Florida — nearly 12,000 acres of river, scrub, and wetlands. The Loxahatchee River runs through it, and guided river tours are one of the best ways to see Florida's backcountry without a lot of effort. Kayaking, camping, hiking, manatee sightings in the cooler months. For WPB residents who want a real outdoor day trip without driving to the Everglades, this is the move.

The Bigger Picture

The outdoor infrastructure in WPB is one of the market's genuinely underappreciated selling points.
