Beaches Near West Palm Beach: A Local Guide
People assume WPB isn't a beach town because it sits on the Intracoastal. They're wrong. The Atlantic is 10 minutes away — and you have options for every mood.

One of the first things buyers say when they start looking in WPB: “But where's the beach?” It's a fair question — West Palm Beach sits on the Intracoastal, not the Atlantic. But the ocean is 10 to 15 minutes away from most downtown addresses, and Palm Beach County has a range of beach options that most newcomers don't fully discover until they've been here a while.
Here's how locals actually think about the beaches.

Palm Beach — 10 Minutes, Closest to Downtown
Cross the bridge and you're there. The Town of Palm Beach maintains public beach access points along Ocean Boulevard — the most-used being the Midtown Beach area, about 10 minutes from the downtown WPB condo corridor. The sand is wide, the water is clear, and parking is limited and metered. That last part is actually a feature: it keeps the crowds manageable. You won't find the wall-to-wall scene you'd get at a big county beach facility. For residents of the buildings on Flagler Drive, this is the closest Atlantic beach and the one most people reach for first.
Singer Island — 15 Minutes, Free Parking, Serious Beach
Singer Island is where locals go when they want a real beach day without the Palm Beach parking situation — about 15 minutes north via Blue Heron Boulevard. It's a residential barrier island with wide beaches and a more relaxed vibe. The move is Ocean Reef Park, which still has free parking (for now — Palm Beach County has floated a proposal to add a fee here, so this is worth confirming before you go) and is one of the best-kept secrets on the island. Riviera Beach's Ocean Walk/Marina District rolled out metered parking that locals have not embraced — the program was paused after a ticketing mess but is scheduled to resume in August 2026 — so Ocean Reef remains the better bet if you want to skip the meter. Phil Foster Park on the Riviera Beach side is the spot for snorkeling; the Blue Heron Bridge area is one of the best shore dives in Florida, with a reef system that surprises people every time.
If the island wins you over completely, our county site covers living on Singer Island — oceanfront addresses at a value the rest of the coast can't match.
Jupiter / Juno Beach — 25 Minutes, The Dog Beach Up North
If you have a dog, you already know about this. About 25 minutes up I-95 or along A1A, Jupiter and Juno Beach have a 2.5-mile stretch of dog-friendly beach that draws people from all over the county. Free parking, open beach, and a crowd that's almost entirely locals and their well-behaved dogs. Jupiter Beach itself is beautiful — less crowded than the beaches to the south, with a more laid-back North County energy. Worth the drive on a weekend morning.
Lake Worth Beach — 15 Minutes South, Benny's on the Beach
About 15 minutes south of downtown, Lake Worth Beach is the one with the most character. The pier, the public beach, and Benny's on the Beach — a casual open-air restaurant right on the sand — make it feel like a real beach town rather than a park with ocean access. It's where you go when you want to eat fish tacos with your feet in the sand, not just lay out and leave. The scene here is genuinely fun, unpretentious, and local.
The Bigger Picture
Buyers who move here for the Intracoastal views and the downtown walkability sometimes take a few weeks to fully explore the beach options — and then they realize they live in one of the best beach markets in the state. The combination of proximity, variety, and the fact that you can still find free parking and uncrowded sand if you know the area is something that doesn't get talked about enough when people are comparing WPB to Miami or Fort Lauderdale.
